Receipt Calendar started as an experiment to see how physical everyday objects could build an audience for a virtual publication. The physical calendar functions as a link to a monthly virtual gallery: as audiences change out the calendar each month, they encounter monthly content printed at the bottom of each receipt. The monthly receipt also works as a key to the website version through a QR code, creating a bridge between physical and digital engagement. Countering the high barriers of traditional submission processes and physical exhibitions, the website opens monthly calls for submissions based on each month's theme, transforming the monthly page into a virtual gallery accessible to anyone. The calendar operates as an effort to see whether physical objects distributed through everyday circulation could build communities that translate into web publication-based social spaces.
